On July 3, 2019, Tomorrow’s Leaders partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Hartsville, South Carolina to host the “Self Expression” Workshop for 40 summer camp participants. This workshop focused on developing leaders among our youth. During the workshop, participants shared topics and issues that were of great concern to them.
The topics included bullying, cyber bullying, violence, littering, political concerns and many more. After hearing their concerns, the facilitators, Dr. Tracy Mack Powell and Mr. Terrance Turner, engaged the youth in identifying resolutions for some of the topics discussed. After the discussion, the participants were amazed to hear how simple acts such as keeping their community clear (picking up trash, not littering) contributes to a clean environment, not liking bullying on social media, can stop bullying and how reporting intended acts of violence to an authority figure, keeps the schools and community safe (See Something Say Something).
At the end of the workshop, participants completed the statement, ” I am a Leader because _“. Participants reported being a leader because they are confident, they finish what they start, caring about others, they are smart and many more.
Special thanks to Walmart of Hartsville for sponsoring this workshop.
